The UK responsible person association (UKRPA) is an alliance of providers of services as UK responsible persons as defined in the Medical Device Regulations 2002 (as amended) who have joined forces to promote professional conduct and competence.
Any company or person who provides such services may apply for membership.
Types of membership
Full membership is available for registered companies that provide professional UKRP services to 10 or more manufacturers of medical devices. This covers companies that provide only UKRP services or provide it as a significant element of their service portfolio (such as regulatory consultants).
Associate membership is available for:
- Entities who act as a UK responsible person for manufacturers within the same medical device company, for example subsidiaries located in the UK.
- Individuals who act as a UK responsible person as sole traders without registration at the Companies House.
- Individuals and companies that provide UKRP services to less than 10 clients.
- Companies that provide UKRP services as a secondary service (e.g. importers and distributors)
Companies who do not wish to become full members, may also apply for associate membership.
Companies and individuals that do not provide UKRP services cannot be members.
How to become a member
Applicants for membership must fill the application questionnaire for new members and confirm their acceptance of the Memorandum of Association, the Code of Conduct and the Privacy Policy. Applications are reviewed and accepted or rejected at the discretion of the Board of Directors of UKRPA.
Members are subject to annual membership fees as follows:
- £ 500 for full members and associate members working for medical device
manufacturers. - £ 200 for other associate members.
The membership fee will be applied on a pro rata basis for members joining in the course of the year.
A onetime joining fee will also apply equivalent to the annual membership fee. This is to cover administrative costs related to adding a new member.
Both full and associate members may fully participate in the activities of the association and avail themselves to the information and services provided by the association, including participation at the Annual General Assembly meetings. However, only full members have the right to vote at the meetings of the association.
